Maine Birth Records
The government has the duty to issue birth records like Maine Birth Records to every person who is born as these records are the official records of the government in regards to the fact of the birth of the person named in the record, and, thus, the official acknowledgement on the part of the government that the person whose name appears on the record is someone who is entitled to certain rights and privileges that are attached upon his or her person by the fact of the circumstances of the birth of that person. There are some rights that are attached upon a person by the simple fact of the birth of the person, and these are rights that the person could exercise even if he or she could not prove the fact of his or her birth, and there are some rights that may only be exercised by the person because those rights are granted upon him or her by the fact and circumstances of his or her birth.
This is the reason why Maine Birth Certificates are requested from a person when a person goes to the probate court to claim to be the heir of the decedent. This is because the right of inheritance is given only to those who are related to the decedent, and the fact of the relationship of a person to another is one that is established by the fact of the birth of the person, thus, there is the need to prove the fact of the birth of the one who intends to make a claim that he or she is an heir of the decedent.
Like all vital records, Maine Vital Records are official records, and this means that the contents of the records in question are presumed to be true and accurate at all times. This means that there is no obligation on the part of the party presenting the records from actually having to prove that the contents of the records are true and accurate, but it must be noted that the presumption is not absolute and could be overturned through the use of competent evidence to be presented by one who would claim that the records are false.
A request for copies of the record could be done at the national or state level, but note that because there are a lot of records that would have to be checked here, a request at this level could take anywhere between six to eight weeks to complete. It would be better, at least from the standpoint of someone who needs the records as fast as possible, to make the request for copies of the records at the national level where the procedure would either be through the mail or in person depending on the office where the request would be made.
It is also possible to make the request for copies of the records online through the use of online databases, but note that these archives are not official sources, and because of that, the information that they could present would not be given the presumption of regularity. Despite this, they could present information that would be substantially the same as that which could be found from the official sources.
